How many people are playing Rust right now?

The figure at the top of this page counts every player on a public Rust server and updates every five minutes. It moves through the day, so a number you read in the morning can differ sharply from the one you see in the evening. 91,118 players are live as of 27 Oct 2026, 15:55 UTC.

Why does this differ from Steam's Rust player count?

Steam counts everyone with the game open, including people in menus, on loading screens and on servers that do not list publicly. This page counts players on public servers only, which is what lets it split them by server type, region and group size. Expect the total here to sit below the Steam figure.

When is the Rust player count at its highest?

The daily peak, currently 98,991, lands in the European evening on most days. The record on this site is 145,095. Players in Australia and the US shift the curve but rarely move the top of it, since evening on the US east coast falls after midnight in the UK.

Are more players on modded or vanilla Rust servers?
